ReLo'd to BA from SD

in late 2006, relocated my angst, business, and social life to NoCal from SoCal ... just a 40-something chick in the 'burbs of the SF bay area who randomly posts about random topics ... the occasional quirky stories of dating (or not) at 40-ish, work-week cubeopolis frivolity, rambling musings on nostalgika, and the occasional introspective moments in life.(thanks for visiting! >p, b)

r|break: ... remembering my dad

Bookmark and Share

a bit of a personal day today - with a sprinkle and dash of out & about ... today my dad would have been 78 yrs old. about 6+ years ago, my dad died. i flew up from san diego in the early eve - a flight that was, needless to say, difficult on so many levels.

i received that phone call ... in april 2002. my sister-in-law called in the late afternoon telling me my dad had a heart attack. paramedics rushed my dad to the hospital, my mom and a friend of hers followed the ambulance, and my brother was heading across the bridge to meet my mom at the hospital. less than 2 hours after i received that phone call, i received a second phone call telling me my dad died in the hospital.

not that it takes his birthday for me to set aside "remembering dad" moments ... i certainly feel his presence and always appreciate the memories i have and those memories that my family and friends share. yet his birthday does mark the obvious passage of time - a benchmark of where my family, friends and i are and where we have been without may dad physically present in our lives and with my dad spiritually present in our lives.

here i share the april 23, 2002 eulogy

Shirlsd - I hope you spent the day pampering yourself and remembering the good things about your dad. It is amazing how our loved ones birthdays and the day they passed become such significant days of reflection. Hugs.
