Day 2 (after Day 1)
i am sure i am not the only one who has posted while on BART ... 7:15-ish from home oughta get me to office in an hour (presuming i exit the right station).
DAY 1 ... was employee orientation nearly all day - 8:30 - 3:30-ish. a 15-min break and 30-min lunch. 3 videos. a day long power point presentation. a binder full of more stuff, including forms. (i now have memorized my bro's address, and my 20 character stree-ddress has started to annoy me - tho' not as much as my bro's 22 character stree-ddress.) got fingerprinted. list o' whom I met, later.
what I am learning so far as of yesterday's first day of school ... my 18-months of employment w/this organization 20 yrs ago actually counts toward added sick leave + retirement benefits. people are very helpful. there are several folks with whom i've worked (20 yrs ago) who are still there or also have returned. i really do work in a cubicle. my voicemail/phone is up and running (OF COURSE!). dress code/attire is casual. i have yet to make my first work & personal call. health benefits are still very complicated with which to choose. there is a strip club less than 100 yards from office building. parking a block away is $17 USD for "early bird" arrival; driving in will be very limited and for special circumstances. i ** heart** my fastrak and hybrid car's sticker. i can have plant's in my cubicle. i want to glam up my cubicle. i may be the shortest person in the group (... haven't met everyone yet). i am the shortest person in the aisle where I sit. i will have discipline not to eat out too often.
Labels: bart me, yes shirlsd is freakin' crazy

How much caffeine did you have BEFORE you posted?
How many more days of Orientation?
Ah cubicles, the slim prison of worklife. I of course recently moved from the cubicles of commoners to an office with a door. I am special.
Problem: Expensive parking, solution, rideshar/carpool.
Problem: Cheap government chair, solution, bring chair from home, nobody will notice.
Problem: Shortest person in row, solution, put blocks under your chair.
oh ...how i am glad to have gotten your comments (billn & jenm)! (someone else is reading the blog besides me. j/k.) i am motivated to "bart me" (aka me posting from bart).
jenm ... in response - (a) was CAFFEINE-FREE and (b) formal HR orientation is over.
billn ... i'll give some thoughts to your comments and solutions. for now -
(a) location - i sit near people who have doors
(b) commute solution - car for when i needed (lug stuff in, date after work, when i carpool with someone who'll take my car and part it at their 'free' space and then pick me up) ... BART for likely m-w-f trips ... BUS for t-th trips ('cuz it's across from my kickboxing)
(c) chair solution - find an aeron chair. pick it up. now consider revising the solution, perhaps.
(d) height solution - ergonomically and common-sense unsafe, dude! however, that doesn't mean i can't create a perimeter platform!
Glad to hear you were caffeine free, but the last few sentences had me a bit concerned, in my business we call it flight of thought. I can only imagine it must have been one of three things:
1. Early morning person: not a good thing for this VT girl
2. New job excitement, understandable
3. ADD - at work I would call for "vitamin H"
Hope you are still enjoying the "new" job!
