before heading south to san jose ... started with a l'il sit-down outside of peet's (in nearby fremont), chit-chat, coffee, cream currant scone, petting and tummy-rubbing
shasta (the 7 yr old golden lab), and talking with with g, shasta's dad. nice relaxing way to start a saturday.

after shaking the blonde fur off of my shirt, k & i headed south on 880 to san jose's
santana row,
shopping at a shopping area that did not exist when i lived in the bay area 19 years ago.
(side note: i thought san jose was far away enough to be not convenient. though bart does not extend to san jose, this shopping area is not more than 20 mi from where i live.)

great sunny day, nice weather, convenient parking, and good company. lunch at
left bank. k enjoyed her
salade niçoise and a glass of white wine, while i enjoyed

a
sandwich jacques pépin because i wanted to see how well i could
mispronounce my selection (and so i would have room for a few scoops of ben & jerry's chocolate therapy™ - yum!)

sure there are a lot of nifty shops ... and of the shops there, how happy am i for the following?!
paper source (so i have another option than to drive into s.f.),
the container store (so i get to relive some of my SD days),
ben & jerry's and
sur la table (so i have another option than to drive into berkeley's, which is more than 20 mi away),
anthropologie (for which i will seek out the other ones also nearby where i live),
design within reach (which is next to the container store), and
burke williams day spa (ahhhh!) ... did i mention
ben & jerry's? i know, i know ... then there are the
other stores - burberry's, lucy, furla, donald j. pliner, etc.
will i go back? yup.

We are happy to hear you eating a Vermont product. But you really should eat Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream that would be excellent.
Billn is a resident of the Republic of Vermont and a member of the Colbert Nation.
i have no comment. i can't think extemporaneously.
Now that I have had time to ponder the subtle complexities of squirrley's posting from the weekend, a cloud of perplexity hovers over my coffee-starved brain cells. Does anyone over 30 ever stop to ask what has happened to those old familiar stores: JCPenney, Mervyns, KMart, Target, Newberrys, Wollworths, Liberty House, Emporium Capwell, etc.? You could go to one place and purchase everything that you needed. Now you go to a shopping destination and go from store to store staffed will svelte hungry young girls with lots of body jewelry and attitude. Or maybe I am just getting old.
Happy Birtyday, kevberk. Yer only as old as you feel. Having a kid probably makes ya feel REALLY old, but happy to be part of the cycle of life at the same time.
to kevberk ... you forgot to mention using coupons!
