project runway (season 5)

and this means another forecasting effort. with episodes and guest judges revealed ahead of time, the commish and scorekeeper are in consult about how to keep the forecasters happy and engaged. ticklers for you on

we aren't starting until next week ... so for those of the 5 of you that may want to "play" the "forecasting" game virtually, i'm the commish with l.a.g. as the scorekeeper. here is what you'll need to do:

• say you want in - formally request (e-mail me with something quippy) for virtual participation. you must sign up no later than SUNDAY, JULY 21 june 19 (my bad), by noon (pacific time) ... HOWEVER, exceptions can be made (if you are really quippy)
  
  
• represent - choose an avatar, typically one of the designers or another PR/bravo icon (but creativity is allowed). your icon will be represented on something like this (by the way, i WAS the whisk which morphed into a handmixer because of my electric performance - ha! sucky humor before coffee and travel)

our judges ... for a DOUBLE HEADER!!!
we had a mash-up mash-up!!! mash-up of episode 3. mash-up of episode 4. AND we chose to homage both in the same catwalk event.

our victim poached honored judges can be seen to the left. two judges stepped up to the plate nearly immediately after the 1st panel of judges (so perhaps we won't have trouble soliciting judges).

again, we offer judges gratitude for their time.

i have - for several, several, SEVERAL weeks - SEVERAL WEEKS (!!!) - had angst - TOTAL ANGST - regarding how the hell to post the DOUBLE HEADER MASH-UP pictures. what do i write? how do i set it up? how much background do i have to give for those who do not watch project runway? I REFUSE TO ANGST NO MORE! here it is.

and the concept ... a mash-up of select elements of the themes that the designers were strapped. the 12 themes were: pleather, underwear as outwear, zoot suit, poodle skirt, fringe, cutouts, overalls, neon, 70s flare, shoulder pads, dancewear, and baggy sweater. check 'em out there, there, there, and there. [ya do gotta check out the many "there" links so you can get a flavor of the flashback hell we lived.]

why i STILL love wednesdays!

just as i did last year (!), i do so this year.
i LOVES ME my wednesday nights.

and as importantly, i loves me my project rungay.

bobble-me ... last september, i ordered the tim gunn bobblehead. he arrived just in time for me to drive up with him from SD to BA last year. how happy was i?! A-DDICT-TED! well, the new season has started. yesterday evening was episode 3. therefore, 2 episodes have wrapped up - and two designers have been auf'd.

an homage ... fortunately, on thursday morning around the figurative water cooler, there are other "prw" fanatics fans, and conversations abound! as a result, someone(s) (!) has/have instigated a little something-something and the result? well ... one of the results - a moment of paying homage to one something/someone in the episode - a designer, a designer's creation, a judge, ... whatever. the inspiration? ... just something or someone.

office supplies/recyclables/compostables/resuables (and sometimes not-so-recyclables) and whatever is in cube-opolitan are our friends ... the self-imposed initial rule of an homage? must be constructed with our aforementioned friends. no fabric, thread, needles, etc. are allowed. design elements/construction must account for a noticeable portion of the homage. the completed homage is then showcased among other prw fanatics fans (and judges) for a 2-5 minute event down the make-shift runway.

judging is completely voluntary, so it's kinda tough to recruit judges for the 2-5 minute gig. but for weekly pics of the judging panel, we don't have too much to offer them - except our gratitude.

episode 1 homage

"junk in the trunk"

you can check out episode 1 on any of the sites previously mentioned. i'll just get to the nitty-gritty. "junk in the trunk" homage was all about elisa! (btw, elisa is still "in".) you can check out a review of elisa's design over here.

so i poached some pics from the boys and project rungay, so you can see the inspiration of the homage.





let's break it down ... simply put - office sh** is binder-clipped (various sizes of binder clips) to my black skirt. you can't see the boots (which are actually matching), but they are there.
the office sh**? ... let's see - my beige jacket, my red hoodie, a stuffed gorilla animal with boxing gloves and a towel around its neck, a small stuffed space alien, a small stuffed panda, a small stuffed brown bear, 2 little iplops (blue with dots & bright green solid), a plastic grocery bag, a small s.f. giants penant, and 1 giant pixy stick (from a self-appointed cube-ster fashion assistant).

episode 2 homage

"poca-haunt-us"

again, you can check out episode 2 on any of the sites previously mentioned. just as before - i'll just get to the nitty-gritty.

"poca-haunt-us" homage - which was showcased wednesday at ~ 10:30 AM (PST) was all about marion! (tear. he's been auf'd.) you can check out a review of marion's design over here. and again, pic poaching from the boys.

let's break it down ... this week's homage* was practically all recyclable and compostable with java jackets delightfully and cleverly stapled to what was once a shwag tote bag and with shredded paper that was taped to the "hem" of the one-quarter panel.

the homage represented one-quarter of the designers creation. (we didn't have enough material for the full homage.)

the office sh** for yesterday's homage consisted of the following: tape, staples, a reusable tote that was cut up with scissors, shredded paper, a scarf (which held up the make-shift off-shoulder effect), more tape and staples, and many-many-many "coffee java jackets" that were opened up and stabbed with scissors for "holes" to provide some texture (as one prw fan commented). the java jackets were then "woven" and stapled to the 1/4-panel.

and to carry-forward one of the judges remarks - a head band was fashioned from two java jackets that were stapled in the back (to each other ... not to my head). hence, the name of this week's homage.

the homage will remain on display in my cubicle for a little cube-o-rama. an index card provides a description of the homage.

*[... and to think that i ONLY had the 1/4-panel and taped shredded paper for what i thought would be **the** final homage. angel guides showed up inspiration hit at the last minute when i was collecting the java jackets to take to the composting bin. we all had been talking about what a bummer it was that there wasn't a burlap bag laying around cube-opolitan (although that would be odd to have found one). them java jackets are just kinda the same color, eh? i was going to just go with the java jackets side by side then a 'founding cube-ster father' of our little prw fan club came up with the VERY CLEVER idea to 'weave' the jackets. and a last minute touch, while getting read to parade down the runway - the scarf for that off-shoulder look from last week's assistant. fabu!]
